“A Story in 55 words or less”

Posted by Dheeraj Kattula on June 19, 2009

I read the following in a blog A Journey Called Life.

If you look around in blogosphere, there is this ’55 words or less’ doing the rounds and as the title suggests means one has to do a story only in these many words, which should have a story line, a beginning and an end and of course one or more characters.
I have been wanting to try my hand at this for sometime now, but somehow I would always fail one or more of the above mentioned parameters. This is one attempt, I wanted to publish and would like to know what y’ll think.
justice is blind

The jury’s verdict- guilty. The widow sat weeping tears of joy, clutching her palms at her pregnant belly as justice finally prevailed.

Later in the evening, they threw a party, the widow and her partner in crime, to rejoice the fact that the law was actually blind.. blind enough to let them escape murder.

I like writing and love being read. 🙂 The problem is that I don’t have the discipline to write and also lack the talent to attract readers. 😦

Somehow, I liked this 55 word story concept. It gets done pretty quickly. So, I tried my hand at continuing the story in 55 words. I also wanted it to be a story even if read in isolation. So,here it is…fire accident

She couldn’t weep. Her eyes blinded and body charred, she awaited death to grant her peace. It was an accident in her kitchen. Her partner was inconsolable. He was an old friend. He loved her dearly.
When it was all over in a couple of days, he claimed the insurance money. He was a master-mind.
